DEHRA DUN: Police on Tuesday arrested Abhimanyu Walia, a Doon School student who is the main accused in March 28 accident in which one man died and another was grievously injured. Of the two men on the motorcycle, Vikrant Singh died a few hours after the accident while the other, Rahul Sharma, is still critical at the Himalayan Institute Hospital. Sharma suffered a fracture in his ribs and has been in coma since the day of the accident. Police had earlier said that three Dosco boys — Abhimanyu Walia from Chandigarh, Uday Pratap Singh from New Delhi and Pranav Swarup from Muzaffarnagar — were in the car when it hit the motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses had said the car was being driven rashly as it was racing with other vehicles. Police also found the I-cards of these boys in the Honda that rammed the motorcycle.
Police on Saturday had sent a team to look for the boys. Abhimanyu was arrested from a well-known hotel on Rajpur Road at noon. Police said they got information that he had come to surrender and arrested him. Earlier, the police team that had gone to Chandigarh had returned empty-handed. DIG Ram Singh Meena said Abhimanyu was produced before the civil judge (Junior Division), who granted the boy bail as his was a bailable offence. Police will now investigate the case and collect evidence, said Meena, adding that Uday had gone to Indonesia and would return on April 10. "His father told us that this visit had been planned earlier."
